
Warm Pizza Dip
A delicious dip for holidays or special occasions. Serve with nacho chips or pita triangles.
Ingredients
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 1 large Italian sausage spiciness is your call
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 can stewed tomatoes, chopped 19 oz
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/4 tsp hot pepper sauce optional
- 1 pkg light cream cheese, softened, cubed 4 oz
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 pkg nacho chips or pita triangles
Instructions
- In large, heavy skillet, heat oil over medium heat.
- Slit sausage casing, remove meat and crumble into skillet. Cook, stirring often for about 2 minutes or until meat begins to brown.
- Add chopped onion and continue to cook for about 3 minutes or until onion is soft and meat is cooked through. Drain off any excess fat.
- Stir in can of stewed tomatoes, oregano, and hot pepper sauce. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer about 5 minutes or until slightly thickened.
- Add cream cheese a little at a time, stirring constantly, until melted.
- Add mozzarella and stir until melted.
- Transfer to a serving dish and serve warm. Serve with nacho chips or pita triangles.
Notes
This recipe can be made ahead of time and reheated in the microwave.
